How to Match Cameras with TriCaster® Scopes
February 14, 2018 by Rex Olson, Chuck Baker
NewTek production systems include broadcast quality professional waveform and vector scopes for video signal analysis, and proc amp controls for signal adjustments. These tools allow producers to ensure that output signal is properly calibrated for broadcast, and that input signals are both proper and matched so that when you switch among cameras and inputs you have a consistent look and no jarring disparities. This tutorial is done on TriCaster®, but applies to NewTek IP Series, 3Play®, NewTek Connect software and hardware tools, TalkShow®, and more.
In this video, Rex Olson matches three cameras. As he notes, the ideal production situation is to have a set of identical make and model cameras to work with, to allow for the best possible consistency in the look and characteristics of the video. That’s ideal, but often setups are going to include different makes and models of camera, so having the tools in the production system to make the best possible match in the look is critical. Here, two cameras are identical and a third camera is a different make and model, so we see an example of a likely real-world situation.
