Panasonic Previews NDI® Products

Panasonic has announced plans to release a line of products with native support for NewTek’s video-over-IP technology, NDI®. The products include several PTZ cameras and a new production switcher, the AV-HLC100. Older models in the selected PTZ camera lines will have upgrades available to enable them for NDI as well.

Describing NDI’s advantages to the user, Panasonic sales engineer Jaume Miro notes: 

“From the camera point of view it is simplicity. Now you  have a true single-cable solution. With one network cable you have power, you have control, you have video and audio, and other things like tally and synchronization.”

On configuration:

“One of the benefits of NDI is autodetection. You don’t have to set up IP addresses and you don’t have to be an expert on IT. You just use the existing network infrastucture and the [NDI-aware] switcher will automatically detect the cameras. You can forget about complex settings on the network.”

The new AV-HLC100 switcher is Panasonic’s first that can use NDI sources in addition to traditional SDI and HDMI sources.

The products are expected end of this year or early next, and camera upgrades will be available in the NewTek Online Store.
